'Starter Pack'

These are the first steps for anyone who is interested in developing a wind energy project. Your introduction will give you the basics of wind power, how to tell if your site is suitable and how to go about developing your own electricity from the wind.

For a list of companies that supply wind turbines or provide consultancy, etc, you can search our company directory

See A windfall for farmers, a BWEA press release describing how wind energy is a useful adjunct to agriculture and can provide extra income to farmers.

Also available is a 'Development Chart for Wind Energy'. This flow chart is taken from Best Practice Guidelines for Wind Energy Development. The booklet costs £5.00 from the BWEA office or click here to download in PDF format.

The DTI's renewable energy helpline may be able to help provide information on possible finance as well as on procedures for having sites assessed: tel - 01235 432 450.

Another contact that may be able to help with guidance on legal matters is the Country Landowners Association. They have developed their own policy on wind generation, and this can be found in their Advisory Handbook 'Wind Farms', available from the Publications department at their head office, 16 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PQ, Tel 020 7235 0511 who can also provide local branch details.
