BWEA Cymru 08

Wednesday 9 July 2008, St. David's Hotel, Cardiff

Jane Davidson AM, Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, confirmed to give keynote address

Following the success and level of interest shown at our 2007 inaugural conference BWEA Cymru is pleased to announce that a second annual conference and exhibition will be held at the St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay on 9th July 2008.  We are delighted to confirm that Jane Davidson AM, Welsh Assembly Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing, has confirmed to open conference with a keynote speech.

BWEA, which represents the wind, wave and tidal stream energy technologies, has established a dedicated Wales Committee and full time office in 2006 to take forward the interests of the industry as well as to fulfil Welsh Assembly Government policy and targets set out in ‘Technical Advise Notice 8: Planning for Renewables’. With the Welsh Assembly Government now expected to publish an Energy Route Map which will outline Wales’ goal of becoming self sustaining in renewable energy, it is necessary to look forward and discuss how wind wave and tidal technologies will contribute towards these ambitions.

It is the intention of the BWEA Cymru conference to discuss this new drive towards a renewables future for Wales, UK and Europe. The conference will also examine the progress made towards achieving the existing TAN 8 renewable energy targets including grid offshore and marine developments, as well as the benefits delivered to local communities from existing renewable energy projects.

The second BWEA Cymru conference will provide a fantastic opportunity for over 200 representatives of the energy industry, politicians, officials of the Welsh Assembly Government, Local Governments and Non Governmental Organisations to discuss the main issues and future vision for renewable energy in Wales and across the UK.
