Industry welcomes guidance on the preparation of renewable energy planning policy

20 February 2006

BWEA welcomes new guidance launched by the TCPA for renewable energy planning policy 'Planning for Renewable Energy: Implementing PPS22 – Guidance for preparing renewable energy planning policies in development plan documents'

The guidance outlines the policy requirements, and key issues that need to be considered by local planning authorities when preparing policies for renewable energy.

Chris Tomlinson, BWEA's Head of Onshore Wind said:

'We hope this further assists local planning authorities in their difficult task of designing criteria based polices for the development of these unique technologies. It is a welcome sign to see the renewables industry, the planning profession, local government and environmental groups taking this joined-up approach to secure the mutual objective of combating climate change and meeting renewable energy targets.'

The report was prepared by the Town and Country Planning Association in conjunction with local government and renewable energy stakeholders. Details of the TCPA launch are available at http://www.tcpa.org.uk/press_files/pressreleases_2006/20060214-RENEWABLES.htm
