A set of three booklets has been produced by AMEC Wind covering Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 & 4. These booklets were produced following teacher placements at Blyth Harbour wind farm in Northumberland.

Each booklet investigates wind power as an alternative source of energy, and provides information and contacts for teachers to support them in the teaching of wind power within the National Curriculum.

The booklets include several activities which can be used as an introduction to wind power. Each activity can be used within the classroom and is not dependent on a visit to a wind farm:

  • a teacher briefing sheet which describes how to organise and run the activity
  • at least one pupil activity sheet which can be photocopied and distributed to the pupils.

These activities are purely suggestions and can be modified and developed to suit each teacher's curriculum needs. All the activities can be linked directly to the National Curriculum at the appropriate key stage, and each booklet includes a National Curriculum reference grid which suggests how to link the activities to the programmes of study. See the National Curriculum Reference Grid for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Key Stages 3&4.

BWEA would like to thank the team at AMEC Wind for making these booklets freely available.

The booklets are also available from AMEC Wind for £7.50 per booklet (inclusive of postage).
