Other Resources

The Department of Trade and Industry has developed programmes for primary and secondary schools to provide information and teaching resources about 8 key renewable energy sources. The 'It's Only Natural' schools programme including case studies can be found at http://www.dti.gov.uk/energy/sources/renewables/renewables-schools/index.html

The Friends of the Earth 'Mad About' series of lesson plans aim to help primary school teachers bring the big environmental issues of the day to life inside the classroom. The lesson plans, for use at Key Stage 1 and 2, cover climate change, waste and recycling, food, air pollution, natural habitats and tropical rainforest and link with the syllabus in geography, citizenship, ICT and English. Mad About lesson plans and booklets can be downloaded for free from http://www.foe.co.uk/learning/educators/resource/

Defra's interactive website 'Global Warming' provides information on the causes and effects of climate change for 7 to 16 year-olds, along with information for teachers and parents. It shows how children and young people can make a real difference, with activities, quizzes and games, and links to other sites. See http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/climatechange/schools/index.htm

Educational resources are also available from other organisations, such as the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. Other suggestions and recommendations can be found in recommended further reading for young people.
