Award winners:

Developers' Developer of the Year Award:
Peter Crone, Farm Energy

Voted on by the membership, the ever popular Developers' Developer award was won this year by Peter Crone. Peter has been strong positive influence on both BWEA and the wind industry for almost 20 years having started Farm Energy in 1988 as a renewable energy manufacturing and service company. Farm Energy was involved in many of the early wind farm developments in England and Wales. In the mid-90s Peter worked first for New World Power, then Zond and finally Enron, developing wind power in a number of world markets including Ireland, Spain and China. He also served on the board of BWEA. He left Enron in 1997 to rebrand Farm Energy as a wind power developer. As well as developing onshore projects throughout the UK, in 1999 he began developing a gigawatt scale offshore project in the Thames Estuary that later became known as London Array. More recently Peter unveiled Farm Energy's latest development, a proposal for a 1,500MW offshore wind farm in the Bristol Channel called Atlantic Array. Not many have pushed for and achieved so much in this industry, making Peter worthy winner of BWEA's 'Developers Developer' award 2007.

Outstanding Contribution 2007:
Chris Veal, Airtricity

At the Gala Dinner the 'Outstanding Contribution to BWEA' award went to Chris Veal of Airtricity. Over the past 15 months Chris has been instrumental in pulling together an Association position on future rounds for offshore wind and delivering this message to both Government and the Crown Estate. As chair of BWEA's 'Future Offshore' working group he also helped facilitate an informed debate around the EU 2020 renewable energy target and the role of the UK's offshore wind industry within this. By chairing a members workshop on these opportunities, and presenting the outcomes to delegates at BWEA's fifth annual offshore wind conference, Chris provided the opportunity for the wider membership to engage in this discussion at an early stage. His work has since led to the Association adopting a UK offshore wind delivery target of 20GW's by 2020.
