Wind Energy in Wales: A FREE Fringe Meeting for Planning Officers & Councillors16:00-17:30 Wednesday 19th October, The Glamorgan Suite, Cardiff International Arena BWEA is pleased to announce this unique opportunity for planning officers and Councillors to attend a free meeting in Cardiff on Wednesday 19th October, timed to coincide with the UK wind industry's annual conference and exhibition. 2005 has seen the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) launch its new planning policy for renewable energy with the publication of TAN8 (Planning for Renewable Energy) in the summer. The new WAG policy has set an 800MW onshore wind target by 2010, equivalent to approximately 400 wind turbines. The intention is for the bulk of this target to be met from 7 strategic areas which are broadly outlined in TAN8, with the remainder coming from small cluster developments outside. The new strategic approach in Wales has implications for local planning authorities and wind farm developers and the meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to consider how best to take TAN 8 forward to deliver the onshore wind target of 800MW by 2010. Refining the boundaries of the strategic areas and formulating criteria based policies in local plans are two of the issues which will form a key part of the debate. This fringe meeting is an invitation to all Welsh local planning authorities to hear from both the Welsh Assembly Government Planning Division and the wind industry on the policy approach set out in TAN 8. More importantly, it is a chance for you to discuss the next steps with WAG and the wind industry and to debate the options in moving forward. I do hope you can attend. You will also have the chance to visit the exhibition where over 70 companies involved in the wind energy industry will be present. To register please email emma@bwea.com, giving the name and contact details of those who would like to attend. |
