Social Events

A Meet the Minister pre-conference reception on Monday 17 October, attended by UK Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks, who spent time speaking to BWEA members. The annual BWEA darts match took place on Tuesday 18 when Sgurr Energy stole the prestigious title from last year's winners, Defence Estates. The evening ended with some sterling karaoke performances, compered by DJ Gordon Edge, complete with red jacket. A round of applause to the man that gave a fantastic rendition of Teenage Dirtbag. The Annual Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony was held at The Coal Exchange in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday 19, attended by 450 people. Embrace the Revolution champion Vincent Kane OBE gave a truly memorable speech and was granted a standing ovation. We hope to have a copy of the speech available here soon. The following awards were given at the dinner:

  • Winners of the Annual BWEA Sailing Regatta, organised by npower renewables, were SeaRoc
  • Winners of the Annual BWEA Darts Match were Sgurr Energy
  • Winner of the BWEA Developer's Developer of the Year 2005 Award: Steve Cowie of Airtricity, presented by last year's winner, Ted Leeming (formerly of Natural Power). You will find no more commitment to wind energy in Scotland than that demonstrated by Steve Cowie, managing director of Airtricity. Not only has the Greenock based company been one the most successful developers of wind farms north of the border in recent years, Steve has also done much to help the renewables industry emerge as a key player in power generation in Scotland.
